Viltrox has recently released a new and improved version of its EF (lenses) to L-mount (cameras) adapter. The new Viltrox EF to L-mount Pro AF Adapter supports IS lens stabilization, EXIF transfer and electronic iris control. This new Pro version also features a positive locking mechanism that holds the attached lens firmly in place.

This new adapter is the direct successor of the older Non-Pro EF-L adapter. The Pro version now has a few nice features that make it easy to securely attach EF (or EF-S) lenses to your L-mount camera (for example from SIGMA, Panasonic or Leica).

First, this new Viltrox EF to L-Mount Pro offers a positive locking mechanism, unlike the old non-locking version. This alone should make for a much better adapter, as the attached lens will no longer wobble.

Also, the new Pro model eliminates the need for a lens mount, as it is no longer needed due to the new locking mechanism. However, you should still consider a dedicated lens mount when using larger lenses with this adapter (your camera’s lens mount will thank you).

The new Vitrox EF to L-mount Pro AF adapter features internal metal contacts for transferring lens data and controls between an attached EF(-S) lens and the host camera.

The entire unit is made of metal for maximum stability, with a few plastic parts inside to reduce glare and reflections. The adapter also has a USB-C port to update the firmware to work with more lenses and new cameras in the future.

The bottom of the adapter is equipped with an additional rubber ring, which protects the joint between the adapter and the host camera from dust and moisture.

You can flip a switch on the body of the adapter to toggle between O (original mode – the adapter is treated like an attached lens) and A (adapter mode – it is recognized as an adapter) modes. I’m not 100% sure what this setting does, but I assume it maximizes compatibility.

The unit measures 82 × 82 × 30.5 mm, and it weighs 159 g.

The new Viltrox EF to L-Mount Pro AF Adapter is available now, it sells for $218. Head over to Viltrox’s website for more information.
