Component manufacturer Meyle has announced the presentation of an improved control arm for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y at Automechanika 2022. The background to the development is that since the beginning of the year, more and more Tesla drivers have been complaining about squeaking noises in the Model 3 and Model Y, according to Meyle.
According to the Hamburg-based company, it has determined that the Tesla wishbone is not sufficiently protected from moisture due to its design, and water entering the suspension joint leads to the squeaking noise. Meyle has responded by developing an “improved replacement part,” according to an accompanying release. The Meyle HD control arm for Tesla Model 3 and Model Y will be spotlighted for the first time next week, Sept. 13-17, at Automechanika in Frankfurt, Germany.
According to the Hamburg-based company, the control arm has been redesigned from the ground up and features four key modifications to the original part: a strong design of the control arm body made of high-strength forged aluminum that improves stiffness and saves weight, a support joint design that does not allow water to penetrate, a ball joint with a larger diameter, and optimized bearing bushings.
“Being able to hold the first prototype of a future HD part in our hand after having identified a weakness, looked into the causes and performed development work and countless tests is a special moment for us every time. Especially for a premium car like a Tesla. After all, moments likes these are precisely why we do our best every day,” says Stefan Bachmann, Head of Chassis & Steering.
The product should be available to Tesla drivers and workshops around the globe in early 2023. Meyle provides a four-year warranty on the control arm. The Hamburg-based company does not yet state the price of the part in its press release.
