Most of Japan's top automakers saw their output shrink last month, hampered by a semiconductor shortage and trouble procuring parts as a result of lockdowns in Shanghai.

Daihatsu saw the steepest drop, with output down 31.9 percent from a year earlier. Mazda's production fell by 23.4 percent; Honda's by 14.5 percent.

Mitsubishi, Toyota and Subaru all saw a decrease in the single digits.

But two automakers bucked the trend. Nissan's output increased by a slim 1.7 percent, while Suzuki's production volume jumped 105.3 percent. The latter mainly reflects a rebound from a tough 2021 in Suzuki's top market, India.

The Shanghai shutdown ended on June 1, but Toyota, Daihatsu and Subaru have all been forced to keep factories closed for at least part of this month.
