Yongnuo has announced a new version of their popular (and above average) 85mm f/1.8 DF DSM lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. In a Weibo post, the new updated version of the lens is now all metal, including the focusing ring, a new design with a more pleasing appearance to look at (if that’s important to you), and a (very) slight reduction in length.
Two significant features of the new Yongnuo 85mm lens, however, include a 40g reduction in weight despite the all-metal construction and the bayonet mount is now equipped with a rubber ring to help with weather sealing and dust proofing. The actual optical structure doesn’t appear to have changed much although it’s had some “fine tuning” as well as optimised coatings.
At the moment, the lens is launching in Sony FE mount, although with the original lens available in other mounts including Nikon Z and Leica M, I expect it’ll only be a matter of time before we start to see others appear. But, this is Yongnuo we’re talking about, so other mounts could be announced next week or it might not be for a couple of years.
But the new lens for full-frame Sony E mount is expected to start shipping soon, but that might just be in China, for now. The only price mentioned so far is 1,999 Yuan, which equates to around $295 – about $25 cheaper than its predecessor.
