Two adults and three children were injured in a multi-vehicle collision in a residential neighborhood in Antioch late Friday afternoon.

According to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the incident happened at Manzanita Way and Sycamore Drive.

A spokesperson for the Con Fire said that the injured were transported to local hospitals, assisted by CalStar and Antioch police, to be treated for their injuries.

Witnesses told police that the three children stopped at an intersection just before 3 p.m., when they were hit by one of the cars.

“One was under the front tire. He was face down and wasn’t breathing too good. The other was in the bushes, in front of the house. And then, on the side of the house, the girl was knocked under the bushes,” said Ronald G. Miles, who witnessed the crash.

Witnesses also told police another car, a red Chevy Impala, tried to pass a tan Mercury sedan illegally and ended up slamming into it, sending the tan Mercury sedan right into the children.

“My heart is broken for these kids, and I hope and pray that they’re going to be OK,” said Antioch police spokesperson Darryl Saffold.

Two adults were also injured and hospitalized. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Those injured range in age from 12 to 29.

Ambulances and a medical helicopter responded to the scene along with medical and rescue personnel.

No other information has been released at this time.
